Wellbeing Support
myHappymind – Whole School Wellbeing Approach

At West Horndon Primary School, we use myHappymind as a whole-school approach to mental wellbeing, supporting children, staff, and families to develop positive habits that build happiness, resilience, and confidence.
Pupils take part in weekly myHappymind lessons, where they learn about their brains, emotions, and behaviours in a clear, age-appropriate way. Through these regular sessions and a shared language used across the school, children develop strategies to manage emotions, build self-esteem, strengthen relationships, and approach challenges with a positive, resilient mindset.
The programme is fully embedded into everyday school life and supports our wider work in personal development, behaviour, and wellbeing. All staff are trained to deliver myHappymind consistently, ensuring that every child benefits from the same supportive messages and approaches.
To strengthen the partnership between school and home, myHappymind also provides a parent app, giving families access to short activities, videos, and guidance that support and reinforce what children are learning in school. This helps parents and carers use the same language and strategies at home, creating consistency and continuity for pupils.
By adopting myHappymind as a whole-school approach, we are committed to supporting the emotional wellbeing of our entire school community and equipping children with the skills they need to thrive, both now and in the future.
Mellow Moments – Counselling and Support
We are pleased to work with Sheila Moses from Mellow Moments, who provides counselling and emotional wellbeing support for children, parents, and staff.

Sheila offers a calm, nurturing, and confidential space where individuals can talk openly, feel listened to, and be supported through challenges. Her work helps children develop emotional awareness, resilience, and strategies for managing feelings, while also offering guidance and reassurance to parents and staff when needed.
Sessions are carefully tailored to individual needs and may support children experiencing anxiety, friendship difficulties, emotional regulation challenges, or changes at home. Sheila works closely with the school to ensure that support is thoughtful, appropriate, and centred on the wellbeing of the whole family.
Mellow Moments plays an important role in promoting positive mental health across our school community, helping everyone feel supported, valued, and able to thrive.
Kids Inspire
We are also able to refer families for specialist support through the children’s mental health charity Kids Inspire, which offers free, trauma-informed support for children, young people and their families. Their experienced team provides personalised therapeutic help, including creative and talking therapies, mentoring, and family support, helping children build resilience, process difficult experiences and thrive. Working with other Brentwood schools as part of the Brentwood Collaborative Partnership (BCP) enables us to connect families with this valuable service when additional help is needed beyond what we can offer in school.
