Get Set 4 PE - Liverpool School Sports ...At WHPS we use GetSet4P.E. to support our teaching of PE.

Intent

Our PE curriculum aims to inspire all pupils to develop a lifelong love of physical activity while building physical competence, confidence and resilience. We are committed to ensuring every child experiences success in PE, regardless of starting point, and develops the skills, knowledge and attitudes needed to lead healthy, active lives. Alongside traditional sports, we aim to broaden pupils’ experiences by offering less common sporting opportunities, helping all children to discover activities they enjoy and can succeed in.

Implementation

PE is delivered across the school by our specialist PE teacher, Mr Harbrow, ensuring high-quality, consistent teaching for all pupils. Lessons are planned and taught using the Get Set 4 P.E. scheme, which provides progressive, well-sequenced units that build pupils’ physical skills, tactical understanding and fitness over time.

In addition to core PE units, we are committed to enriching the curriculum through the introduction of unusual and alternative sporting activities, such as archery, New Age Kurling and mini golf. These activities are carefully selected to promote inclusion, develop transferable skills such as coordination and precision, and ensure that pupils who may not always thrive in traditional team sports can experience success and enjoyment in PE.

PE lessons cover a broad range of activities, including games, gymnastics, dance, athletics and outdoor activities, ensuring pupils develop agility, balance, coordination, strength and stamina. Opportunities for teamwork, personal challenge and healthy competition are embedded throughout the curriculum.

All pupils in Year 6 also take part in swimming lessons delivered off-site at Basildon Sporting Village, ensuring they meet the statutory requirements for swimming and water safety by the end of Key Stage 2.

Impact

As a result of our specialist-led PE provision, pupils make strong progress in physical skills and demonstrate increasing confidence, enjoyment and engagement in physical activity. They show positive attitudes towards sport, perseverance when faced with challenge and an understanding of how to improve their own performance. Pupils leave primary school with the skills, knowledge and motivation to remain physically active and to make positive choices about their health and wellbeing in later life.
