West Horndon Primary School

Our 50 Things!

At West Horndon Primary School, we believe that a truly great education is about far more than academic achievement. Childhood should be filled with excitement, curiosity and memorable experiences — the kind that stay with you for life.

That is why we have created our ‘50 Things’ Curriculum Breadth Entitlement: a carefully chosen list of experiences that we want every child to have during their time at WHPS. These include opportunities to explore the wider world, develop independence, build character, strengthen friendships and discover new passions and talents.

From travelling on a train, visiting Parliament and exploring London, to learning first aid, building dens, stargazing, making a speech, caring for animals and completing acts of kindness, our ‘50 Things’ help ensure that every child benefits from a rich, varied and inspiring journey through primary school.

We are proud that our ‘50 Things’ sit at the heart of what makes WHPS special — a school where learning is meaningful, where children thrive, and where wonderful memories are made.

How will children complete the 50 Things?

The WHPS ‘50 Things’ are an entitlement for every child and are planned into school life. Many are delivered through our curriculum, enrichment activities, school visits, visitors, special events and opportunities within the local community.

Some children may naturally complete additional experiences outside school with their families — which is wonderful — but there is absolutely no expectation for families to complete these at home. Our aim is that children will access these experiences through their time at WHPS, regardless of background or circumstance.

These shared opportunities help us to ensure that every child benefits from a broad, balanced and memorable education — with plenty of fun along the way.
