Music

“Through music, children discover themselves.”Stevie Wonder

At WHPS we use the Charanga Music Scheme to support our teaching and learning of music. It provides engaging, high-quality lessons that help children to develop key musical skills such as singing, listening, performing, composing and appraising music. We are fortunate to have several musically talented and qualified staff who deliver the lessons across the school.

Music Enrichment Offer

Alongside our curriculum music lessons, we offer children a range of exciting opportunities to develop their musical skills and confidence.

Performances and Singing

Children regularly take part in performances throughout the year, including Christmas concerts and end-of-year shows, giving them the chance to build confidence, develop stage presence and share their achievements with families.

We also hold weekly singing assemblies, where pupils learn a wide range of songs, develop good vocal technique and sing together as a school community.

Everyone learns an instrument

As part of our music provision, all children in Years 5 and 6 are taught to play the ukulele, developing their instrumental skills and confidence in performance.

Rocksteady Music School (In-school Band Lessons)

We are pleased to offer children the opportunity to take part in Rocksteady Music School – fun, inclusive rock and pop band lessons held in school.Rocksteady | Castle Hill Primary School

Children learn to play in a band, develop teamwork, and build confidence through regular performance opportunities. Instruments are provided as part of the programme, and families are invited to end of term concerts.

Music for Schools Foundation Lessons

We also offer individual music lessons in partnership with Music for Schools Foundation. Parents and carers book and pay for lessons directly with them.

The Music for Schools Foundation is a charity that has been enabling children to learn a musical instrument for nearly 30 years.  With our fantastic tutor and the support of your school, your child can begin an amazing journey of their own that has so many benefits, beyond just learning to make beautiful music!

Most importantly, music is so much fun!  It’s a fantastic mood-booster, helps children to make friends, builds their confidence and encourages them to work as a team.  Music develops communication and language skills, inspires and allows children to express themselves and be creative and it doesn’t hurt that it is proven to enhance academic performance too!

We believe all children should have the opportunity to learn to play an instrument and as a charity we are passionate about making lessons affordable and accessible.

We provide tuition on brass and woodwind instruments and have packages available to suit all budgets, with flexibility built in to make sure you’re confident that you can give your child the chance to give music a try even if you’re not sure it will ‘stick’ (we’re sure it will!).

If you would like to read more about our lessons on the Recorder, Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Cornet or Trumpet, please visit www.mfsf.org.uk and you’ll find all the information you need.

Young Voices (Years 5 & 6 – The O2 Arena)

Children in Years 5 and 6 have the exciting opportunity to take part in Young Voices, where schools come together to form the largest children’s choir concerts in the world.

Young Voices | OVO Arena Wembley

This is a fantastic chance for pupils to rehearse and perform as part of a large choir and experience a memorable live concert at The O2 Arena in London.
