At WHPS our chosen MFL is French. We use the Kapow Scheme in KS2 to support the teaching and learning of French.

We are lucky that we also benefit from expert teaching from one of our teachers (Miss Jean Marie) who is a native French speaker. 

French is not statutory in KS1, but research has shown that the earlier children learn a new language, the better it is for both their oral and cognitive development. Additionally, it has a positive impact on understanding language structure, including grammar and syntax, in all languages. This is why WHPS has made the conscious decision to integrate songs, stories, and interactive activities to expose younger children to the French language and culture. We use BBC Bitesize resources to support this.

However, we adapt our curriculum depending on the starting points for each class.
