Cookery School@WHPS
We are delighted to welcome Chef Rob’s Cookery School to West Horndon Primary School, providing pupils with the opportunity to develop practical life skills, confidence, and creativity through high-quality cookery lessons.
Chef Rob, who owns and runs Rubino Kitchen, delivers regular, hands-on cookery sessions for pupils in Years 5 and 6. His lessons are carefully structured, engaging, and inclusive, helping children to develop essential cooking skills while learning about nutrition, food hygiene, and safe kitchen practices.

The programme runs across the academic year, with termly themes that allow pupils to build on their skills, explore a wide range of ingredients, and experience food from different cultures. Each unit is designed to be practical, enjoyable, and progressively challenging:
-
Autumn 1 (Year 6) – 🍝 La Dolce Vita – Italian Favourites
-
Autumn 2 (Year 5) – 🥚 Eggs-travaganza!
-
Spring 1 (Year 6) – 🍔 Fakeaway Feast – Takeaway Treats from Scratch
-
Spring 2 (Year 5) – 🌈 Rainbow Plates – Fantastic Fruit & Veg
-
Summer 1 (Year 5) – 🌮 Street Food Safari – Tastes from Around the World
-
Summer 2 (Year 6) – 🍴 Mini MasterChef – The Taster Menu Challenge
Through these themes, pupils learn to prepare a variety of dishes while developing teamwork, problem-solving skills, independence, and a positive relationship with food. Chef Rob’s calm, encouraging approach ensures that all children feel supported and successful, regardless of prior experience.
Chef Rob’s Cookery School plays an important role in preparing pupils for life beyond primary school, equipping them with valuable skills and fostering a lifelong enjoyment of cooking and healthy eating.
